Hindu people especially in Bali very enthusiastic welcome their holidays because on this day they do the pray as Balinese Hindu worshiping to the infinite (Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa) supremacy as this world creator. This matter is seen very striking when we enter the Balinese life where one month before the day of Galungnan and Kuningan they have prepared all the materials concerning the religion activities and life.
Balinese Activities on Galungan and Kuningan Day
In this year, these holidays are come on 29 November 2006 for Galungan Day and 09 December 2006 for Kuningan Day. Before the day of Galungan and Kuningan, Hindu people in Bali are looked to be very busy to prepare the religious ceremony appliance and the beautiful view can be seen throughout Bali Island is the installation of Penjor (the high bamboo and curve dotted with the coconut leaf) in each front of their house. Something else that we can meet is the pig amputation collectively to fill their devoting. Other attractions of Barong Dance and activities also can be found. On this day they execute the praying in the temple along with their family to worship the infinity and their ancestor utilize to ask prosperity, safety and the pardon from all mistake which have been made. Residents of Bongan Gede hamlet, Bongan village, Tabanan, had a different tradition in celebrating the Kuningan feast day on Saturday (Feb 11). They organized a mesuriyak or cheering ritual after praying together. It was undertaken by spreading banknotes to residents in the middle of the road. Local people had a faith that such ritual escorted the ancestors back to their heaven.
The ritual carried out through generations was started with the worship in their respective family shrines. After that, the procession was resumed with presenting oblation before the entrance gates of each house compound. Approximately at 10:00 a.m. local time, the cheering ritual began. Having presented the oblation, all the family members threw money up, ranging from the banknote with denomination of IDR 1,000 to IDR 100,000. Once the money was thrown, local people immediately scrambled to collect them. As a result, some residents might get injured or scratched as they might push one another.
 Penampahan galungan
Penampahan Galungan, is a day before Galungan (a Christmas for Balinese). The word “Penampahan Galungan” derives from the word “tampah” which means “to slaughter” and “galungan” which means victory. So Penampahan Galungan is a day for Balinese to slay their Sad Ripu (six internal enemies, they are: kama (lust), loba (greed), krodha (anger), mada (drunkeness), moha (confusion) in order to achieve victory.

But Penampahan Galungan is not just a day for ultimate struggle Dharma (Virtue) versus Adharma (Evil) but also a preparation day. On this day, Balinese are seen to be busily preparing offerings and cooking for the next day. While the women of the household have been busy for days before creating beautifully woven ‘banten‘ (offerings made from young coconut fronds), the men usually wake up well before dawn to join with their neighbours to slaughter a pig unlucky enough to be chosen to help celebrate this occasion. Then the finely diced pork is mashed to a pulp with a grinding stone, and moulded onto sate sticks that have been already prepared by whittling small sticks of bamboo. Chickens may also be chosen from the collection of free-range chickens that roam around the house compound.
